1. ATTACK (closely read) "In My Tribe," p. 516 - 518 in The Aims of Argument. Be prepared to discuss the rhetorical devices discussed in class today (i.e. take close reading notes on these specific rhetorical devices). I will come around to check your close reading.

Note: Your Unit 1 paper is due two weeks from Today.

In-Class Writing: 1.25.11

Read this article and respond to it by answering the following questions (on a sheet of notebook paper).

1. How would you categorize the language in this piece (formal, casual, technical, etc.)? Hint: look at pronouns, sentences/fragments, and specific words. In what other settings would such language be expected?
2. What was this writer’s goal in writing this piece? In what ways does his use of language help or hinder that goal?
